Who is likely the first person you'll meet if you are registering your child at LRES? Ms. Dominique, that's who.
She's new to the Laurel Ridge Elementary School community and to Georgia but not new to supporting students in schools.
In this month's Staff Spotlight, learn more about where Ms. Dominique has lived, some of her newfound favorite food spots, and which baseball team you can find her cheering on.
1. Welcome to Laurel Ridge! How long have you been working for Dekalb County Schools?
Thank you! Laurel Ridge is my first position with Dekalb County Schools and I started in January.
2. What does your day-to-day look like at Laurel Ridge?
Each day has been different and full of activity! I spend most of my day assisting callers and visitors, and of course helping our students, teachers, and administrators with whatever they need!
3. What do you want parents and caregivers to know about your role? What about students?
Along with being the School Secretary, I also help monitor students' attendance and register all new students to Laurel Ridge.
Students can come visit me in the front office, or just wave as they walk by to go to lunch or on their way to a special!
4. What do you love most about working at a school?
The students of course! I previously worked in the counseling office at a high school in California and really enjoyed being a part of the older age group and assisting them with their post high school plans. I’m excited to be at Laurel Ridge Elementary and observe students as they begin their educational journey.
5. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Walking the Beltline, puzzles, board games, and eating my way through Atlanta.
6. What is your favorite kid-friendly joke?
Why can’t Cinderella play soccer?
Because she’s always running away from the ball.
7. What were your favorite subjects when you were a student?
Math & PE.
8. Do you have a favorite food spot near LRES?
Near LRES - I’ve had great lunches from Pea Ridge.
Favorite dinner spot - Sotto Sotto in Inman Park
Favorite burger spot – Ladybird on the BeltLine
Favorite breakfast spot – The Daily in Inman Park for the whipped feta toast!
9. Is there anything else you want to share?
I’m new to Georgia. My husband and I moved here last year from California.
I was born in Hawaii but consider California as my home state. Which means I’m a die-hard Dodgers fan! (I hope I don’t regret sharing this! ) ☺️
I’m a proud NAVY brat and have lived in 8 states (Hawaii, California, Florida, Maine, Colorado, Nevada, Missouri and Georgia.)
