In this edition’s Volunteer Spotlight, the LRES PTA would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Angela Ballard for her years of dedication and hard work toward supporting the school community, especially with her work on the Eric Hunt Care Closet.
For over five years, Angela has worked with other PTA volunteers to make sure that families in our community experiencing food insecurity get extra support each week with groceries sent home in backpacks.
Partnering with Ms. Wierwille at the school, the staff at Preschool at the Heights at UHUMC, and the Toco Hills Community Alliance food bank, Angela has coordinated this effort behind the scenes through many emails, texts and phone calls, as well as physically collecting food and packing backpacks each week.
Angela has also been instrumental in implementing the Angel Tree holiday gift program each December, which helps many families in the Laurel Ridge community fulfill their children's holiday wishes.
This school year alone, she helped coordinate a mobile food bank with Toco Hills Community Alliance here at Laurel Ridge in December, in which 115 families received over 9000 lbs of food, as well as organizing a team from Laurel Ridge to participate in the Atlanta Community Foodbank Hunger Walk in March, which helped raise $30K for Toco Hills Community Alliance. There will be another mobile food pantry at Laurel Ridge on May 18th that Angela also helped coordinate.
All of her work with the Care Closet is in addition to many years serving as a Room Parent for multiple classrooms and time served as a member of the PTA Executive Committee. Please join us in thanking Angela for all she has done to improve the Laurel Ridge Elementary School community as she "graduates" from LRES this May! She will be missed!
If you’d like to help continue the excellent work Angela has done for our community, please contact PTAcommunitysupport@laurelridgeelementary.com or get started with a volunteer slot with the Eric Hunt Care Closet this month.
